Spliffs usually have fliters or "crutches" at the end, which are hand rolled from any pliable cardboard like material such as a strip from an old cigarette carton or any form of thick paper. In other countries and cultures spliff has a wide range of meanings that may not be as specific as the meaning in the united states. In the United Kingdom the word spliff often is used as slang for marijuana or a marijuana cigarette with or without tobacco. Spliffs are smoked like any regular cigarette by being lit at the end while inhaling the smoke through the paper and filter into the lungs.
