There are two ways of saying 'that'
'kore' is a thing near the speaker, in other words 'this'.
'sore' is a thing near the listener, so therefore 'that'
and 'are' is something that isn't near either person, once again, 'that'
So it gives you the two options based on distance, or proximity and they are 'sore' and 'are'.
You'll use one of the phonetic systems, hiragana or katakana, to spell it out.
So Anna would be Ana あな (hiragana) or アナ (katakana), and Johnny would be Joni じょに or ジョニ. Of course, if they're originally a Japanese person, likelihood is they have a kanji name and you'll have to ask them.
If you search 'hiragana' or 'katakana' on Wikipedia, there should be a full list, and if you can figure out their name in romaji,
'Spell' in Japanese may be呪文(jumon) orまじない (majinai). 'To spell' is綴る (tsudzuru).
