Aluminium can only be welded using Mig or Tig welding equipment. When gas equipment is used a flux is needed. It can not be welded with an electric spot welder.

It is possible to weld Aluminium with a spotweldingmachine, but it will cost more energy. Where you weld Standard Steel of High Strenght Steel with 6 - 15 kA (depending the thickness), fot Aluminium you need 18 - 24 kA (also depending the thickness).
As for now, we are also able to weld Aluminium with a spotweldingmachine a special way, so you can't see the welding knob at 1 side. (visible side of an automotive part)
