In order to square something, you must be able to create a (relatively) perfect right angle (90 degrees) (that's 1/4 of a circle).
You need to be able to measure 3, 4, and 5 of whatever units you are using. Anything will do, even sticks of the same length.
Place 3 sticks (or measure 3 units) in any direction. Turn either left or right, and place 4 sticks at what you think is about 90 degrees. Connect the ends with 5 sticks and you have a right angle.
Repeat this 3 mores time and you have a square.
Another way is to measure from one corner to the opposing corner and then measure the other two corners in the same manner. If they have the same measurements, then the object is square.
