Generally, it's an effort. You have to remove (called scarify) the outer layer, and then provide a moist, warm, somewhat humid environment, and then allow the seed to develop. Every seed is different, but mostly they need to stay connected to the seed shell upon development for a certain length of time, as it is an umbilical chord of sorts. Fungus and blight can be problems, particularly in certain species.
Palm seeds are usually found in clusters hanging down from the top in between the fronds.

They are actually a type of palm tree so they have that look and shape. The dates hang in bunches on the top of the tree. In Palm Springs, CA there are date groves where dates are grown.

i have an indoor palm ( think that's what it is). it has long skinny stalk and skinny leaves at the top. The trunk collapsed in the center but the top is still alive. Not sure what to do with it. Any ideas?
