Replace the coolant, thermostat, turn off the A/c, in emergencies drive with the heater on, increase the air flow through the radiator, have your radiator checked for blockage.
temp light is on a 1991 Chevy lumina car not hot...
Could be low on coolant.
system running hot fans not running
There could be a number of reasons why a 2000 Chevy Lumina's transmission would make a bump after the car has been driven a while, and it is hot. The bumping is caused by a failing transmission, and a mechanic will need to see it.
thermostst may be sticking
In a Chevy Lumina, low coolant means that the car needs more anti-freeze/coolant added. This is needed to keep the engine from getting too hot
possibly the water pump
The temperature light comes on in a 1992 Chevy Lumina when the temperature of the engine reaches the boiling point. The light may also come on if the transmission gets too hot. Usually a leak in the radiator system will cause a loss of fluid and lead to the temperature light, but it could be anything and must be checked.
