One thing that happens is the fan blades on the transmission get bent up into the drive belt and the fan blades throws the belt. The right way to fix is is to replace the fan, but you can bend the fan blades down by hand without removing anything and it seems to work just as well.

Fix the drive belt.
The drive belt is a Craftsman #140294 The deck belts are Craftman #'s 180808 & 174368
It might be the bearings are shot in your jack shaft.
The routing diagram for a Craftsman GT 5000 ground drive belt shows how the best must be wrapped around each pulley. It can typically be found on the underside of the housing or within the repair manual.
maybe your deck is too low
You have probably broken the drive belt. With the mower turned off, lie on the ground and look underneath the mower. There is a deck belt and a drive belt. The drive belt is the upper belt. Grab the upper belt and see if it is broken.
you probably have a bad bearing
May possibly be a loose missing or worn belt.

If a wheel has been remove like to fix a flet, then a key. If not then the drive disc could be worn out or the belt is slipping. * If that doesn't work check to see if the bolt connecting the drive belt to the axle snapped off.
