You should shake the fruit when it's ripe and eat it, not wait until it makes a mess on your driveway - the berries taste great and are excellent for your heart (especially red/black ones)!I have a LARGE , old fruit mulberry in the back yard, I was told that if you drive several large nails or stakes in the tree (be careful and not go to the heart of the tree) it will stop the tree from making fruit, which make a mess on cars and driveways and sidewalks. I did it last year and so far, NO luck, however the same person told me later it will take maybe 2 years to take effect. If someone else knows of something different, it will save the very old, large tree !!
It is in the nature of trees to produce fruit. There are many uses for mulberries so you could give them away.
The mulberries appear in late April and early may and are edible once they become dark red or purple

I grew up in Durham, CA (outside Chico, CA) and we had a fabulous, large mulberry tree. We had sweet, warm, juicy berries that were large and healthy. It seemed to be the perfect place for them.

A mulberry tree [Morus spp] is the oldest tree in Uttranchal, India. Mulberries aren't known for being long lived. But the Badrinath Temple tree is beating the odds. Specifically, it's reputed to be at least 1,200 years old. It no longer fruits, but still grows fresh leaves and beautiful flowers.
