Remove the invitation. If its your child then it means a lot of work. Consistency in parenting is the only way. Don't give in for an easier life. Your inconsistencies have created the situation so you need a firm resolve to put things right.

If you are replacing a lost parent figure then the job is not yours to correct its your partner's. Beware. Despite your efforts to offer guidance it is rarely welcomed and remember blood is thicker than water. Just become the listener to both points of view and don't offer an opinion or take sides.

Teenagers in particular are masters of the vernacular and their aim is to manipulate adults. If they can get you mad enough to grab them by the throat then you alone are the terrible person.

Just gently remind the person who swears that their vocabulary is improving considerably and merely correct any grammatical errors. Let them grab you by the throat and take the high ground.
