First, get the pin diagram of the respective microprocessor and get the idea about all the functions performed by various pins. After that, study the internal structure of the microprocessors. Internal structure mainly comprises of - ALU, Control Logic, Timing Control etc. Refer any of the book.. For 8085, I found R.S. Gaonkar a better one.
