Yes, you can turn a kill shelter into a no kill shelter, but you would need to be prepared to find a way to care for any animals that you were unable to find homes for.
Try a animal shelter, the no kill shelters always wants volunteers. Get out the phone book, look up animal shelters, and call. The local city hall should have names of the county animal shelter.
Contact the police or your local animal shelter.
Humane society are no kill while a dog pound will kill the animal Actually that is wrong, Humane Society's do kill, you would have to check with the individual Humane Society to find out whether they kill or not. Not all pounds/shelters kill either, many are working towards a no kill approach, which is good as long as animals are not left waiting for years in a kennel. Most shelters/pounds work with rescue groups to get the animals out but some do not and will not. That is when you start getting into the political game that some heads of Animal Control play, they don't want to be questioned or challenged on their practices of killing, so they ban rescues.
ADOPT A CAT FOUNDATION (Lake Park, FL) is the ONLYNo-Kill cat shelter in Palm Beach County Florida.THIS IS A FACT.Other self claiming No Kill shelters, keep the animals for a period of time and then ship them off to county Animal Control where they are killed.
This means if a shelter is a no kill shelter, the shelter will house all animals until someone adopts them or they stay in the shelter for the rest of their lives. A kill shelter will house animals for a length of time and if they are not adopted, the shelter puts them to sleep.(Forever)
YES, PetsAlive Westchester (formerly known as Elmsford Animal Shelter) IS certainly still a no-kill animal shelter. The name-change is due to the partnership that Elmsford Animal Shelter now has with Pets Alive Middletown, and so Elmsford has taken on Pets Alive's name, but is the Westchester (not the Middletown) location. Both locations remain dedicated to NO-KILL. The Westchester location of PetsAlive has recently begun taking in dogs from the south who were on lists to be euthanized. They are having great success adopting out these dogs. Please fill out an application if you are interested in meeting some of our animals. Note: we no longer accept walk-ins. You must fill out an application and wait for a staff member to contact you and set-up an appointment to meet with an adoption counselor. THANKS FOR KEEPING OUR AREA NO-KILL!
The shelter that puts down animals every week is called The mean shelter. It is called that because they kill so many animals every week. Another one is called the Put-down shelter.
