with syncmate, its easy, just load driver on phone, load s'ware on computer, and click to connect, you do need to enter the ip add. 192.168.blah blah on the mac and hey presto, great little app.. free too..

You can sync music to it with any linux application. Ubuntu is free to download, and you can install it right alongside your current OS. If you are running Mac OS X, then i don't know if you can do that. If you are trying to sync apps without iTunes, try libmobiledevice on Ubuntu (just google it).
The HTC Touch is a Windows mobile device and the associated PC Suite is only available for computers running the Windows operating system. To use these with a MacBook would require that the Windows operating system be installed on the MacBook.
