i just had this problem with my 93 probe, the rear view mirror fell off. i couldn't get mine apart either. I went to pepboys and they said there's a clip that you can't get to, but pepboys does sell a "button" all by itself. It' was like $4. Buy that. It takes about 5 minutes total to put it on. You'll just attach the new button to the windsheild, and the old rear view mirror to that.
