Without know ing the nature or extent of the injury, al I can say is get vet to a vet right away. Great Danes are big, muscular dogs, but they are surprisingly delicate, especially their legs. Some untreated injuries in young Danes, those still growing, can result in permanent deformities.

What do you do to keep a great dane's claws short?

The best way to keep a Great Dane's nails short is to take him/her to a dog groomer at least once a month. If you can't afford a dog groomer, you can purchase nail trimmers for dogs at a local department store or pet store. If you decide to trim his/her nails on your own, be careful not to cut them too short, and you should trim Great Dane nails at least once a month.
