Alpacas can be harnessed and led with a rope attached to the harness. Catching an untrained alpaca can be difficult, so they are often herded into a small area where they can be caught and harnessed. Handling them for specific tasks like walking up into a trailer or having their toenails clipped involves lots of patient training (or impatient manhandling).

A LLAMA NEEDS A GOOD SHELTER.

It can be three sided. The roof should be high and provide for good circulation and air flow to keep the heat down in the summer

WHAT DOES A LLAMA EAT ?

They are random grazers and do well on field grass, or orchard grass. It is best to keep them off of fescue especially pregnant and nursing mothers.

A Llama needs Hay....... Llamas eat grain feed

LLamas need love and attention and cannot be ridden.

They need fresh water.

Llamas also need to have their wool shorn every year so they don't get overheated in the summer. Overheating can cause males to become sterile or worse, can kill any llama.

Grooming an alpaca can be a very difficult job, although it can be easy if you apply the correct terms. Sometimes you can hurt the alpaca's genitals when stroking UNDERNEATH the alpaca so you must keep your hands firm and steady. Always remember to stroke the alpaca's genitals if you have rubbed that area as infection can be drawn into the situation.
