If you are a free Basic member, you can not take your moshling for a wail, no matter what.
BUT, if you are a paid Moshi Member, put a moshling in your house, then go to a random place on the map (but NOT puzzle palace, moshling garden, fun park, volcano, home, or dress up room), and you should see a moshling next to/below your monster.

If you are a paid Moshi member you go to the Moshling Zoo and pick a moshling. When it appears on the moshlings in your room the first one is the one you will walk when you go outside your house. Otherwise it will stay in your house.
