How do you talk to a 21 yr old about the dangerous effects of mixing lexapro marijuana alcohol and pain meds?

Lexepro and marijuana do not fall into the categories of mixing alcohol and pain medicine (opiates). There is no danger from marijuana other than what could be caused by the smoke, even though there is not a single case of lung cancer being caused by marijuana. Also, there has been studies that suggest marijuana has strong anti cancer properties and actually kills certain types of tumors. It has also been shown to be very good medicine for pain relief. Lexepro is an anti-depressant that doesn't have any 'mixing' effects and shouldn't even be in the list.

Alcohol kills, period. There are no redeeming qualities about alcohol. Studies have proven it to be much more damaging, and addicting than marijuana.

Opiates are narcotic forms of pain killers with similar ingredients as heroin. Some are more addictive than others, but all of them can cause serious problems even death if mixed with alcohol.

With all that being said you must remember the old axiom 'you can lead a horse to water, but can't make them drink'. You need to find the root cause of your sons use of these various chemicals, is it recreational? is it running away from something? is it to make up for low self-esteem? is it because everyone else is doing it? does he even LIKE it or does he just 'do it'? is it because he doesn't do anything else and he's used to doing it (habit)?

How much does he use? How often? Is it really a problem, or do you perceive it as a problem because you don't agree with the behavior?
