you can't talk to them freely, you have to mail them something on their pinboard. this is how you do it if you don't know:
1) go to your friends list
2)choose the friend you want and click on their name
3) go to their room and click on their pinboard
4)clik on add message, and write your message
EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!
but if they have already sent a message to you on your pinboard all you have to do is:
1) click on your pinboard
2)read their message and approve by clicking the tick in one of the boxes in the top right corner
3) click reply in the bottom right corner
4) and write your message!
so that's how you do it!
