You have to mount it and ride it (break it) just like the cowboys do, it may take a few times to tame it. Don't forget to have a saddle in your inventory to ride it after your done and a lead to tie it up so it doesn't wander off later.
One way I've heard is to give the horse some apples and then mount it and it should reduce the times it bucks you off and you have to remount it.
You can ride on the horse until it shows hearts above its head, indicating it's tamed. (If your Particles setting is at least to decrease so you can see the heart icons.) Remember to put a saddle on the horse so you can ride it to anywhere.
Currently, you can not tame animals in pocket edition.
You right click it till hearts come from the horse, then you can put armor, and saddles on the horse.

You can not tame a villager in Minecraft. They can not be used as a pet such as wolfs and ocolots.
To tame a horse, right click the horse with no items in your hand. Eventually, the horse will not through you off and you can press 'E' while still on the horse to access the horses inventory and attach a saddle or armor. To speed up the taming process you can feed the horse golden apples, or golden carrots, but that is purely optional.
