I was on 20 mg of Lexapro for 6ish months. My psyciatrist said I could taper down to 10 for one week and then stop. I did this recently and 3 days later I now have typical lexapro withdrawl symptoms such as aches and pains and nausea and insomnia etc. It has been 4 days since I stopped the Lexapro and I am in a lot of discomfort that the pharmasist told me could last up to 2 weeks. Could this be done easier? For example, should I take 5 or 10 mg for ? amount of time. Was 1 week down 10 mg from 20 mg and then stopping too much reduction too fast? The lowest dose and fastest cessation is ideal, but I am having trouble functioning when I feel so bad physically. I would ask my psyciatrist but she is on vacation and will not be back for 2 weeks. What should I do? Please help! Thank you, Rinner/Corinne
NEVER TAPER OFF THIS DRUG WITHOUT WORKING WITH YOUR DOCTOR!!!!!! It is better to taper off extremely slowlywhich is generally 5 mgs. every 15 days or even 1 - 2 mgs. every 15 days to let your brain and body adjust as each individual is different. Some medications such as Lexapro can stay in the body for longer periods of time (called 1/2 life). If you come off these drugs too quickly these are some of the symptoms you may experience: * Lightheartedness * Dizziness * Headaches * Fatigue * Insomnia * Bizarre dreams * Confusion * Problems with concentration and memory * Gastrointestinal distress * Electric shock sensations * Anxiety * Irritability Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking Lexapro or while tapering off as it induces the medication in your body. It is also not recommended that another SSRI be given while you are in withdrawal as it can counter act the other medication. If you feel at all strange and withdrawal is interfering with you going to school, work or your daily routine then see your doctor immediately and if he/she is not available go to a clinic or ER. Again I stress ... do not go off these drugs on your own!!!
My doctor actually put me on .05 mg of Lorazapam and 20 mg of Lexapro at night. and I take Lorazapam in the morning same dose.
Lexapro was developed by isolating the active component of Celexa® (citalopram HBr). Lexapro (Brand Name) is also known as escitalopram oxalate.
can u take alka seltzer plus severe sinus with 20 mg of lexapro
I switched from 10mg lexapro to 30 mg cymbalta for 2 wk and then 60 mg. Have had good results. For one thing I quit gaining weight, as I did on lexapro. Cymbalta also helped my muscle aches and pains as an added plus.
I have taken them together and survived. 20 mg Lexapro with 5 mg Vicodin and 3 pints of beer. My doctor said the Lexapro and Vicodin are ok together as long as it is supervised and within the recommended dosage. The beer, probably not ok.
Not unless you are a chemist or physician and know what and why you are doing so.
Yes there is. I only took one Lexapro and that was it. I have not been myself for over a month, not much improvement. Please ask your doctor to taper anyways.
it can be very affective base off of your level of anxity
I certainly hope so! My doctor has me on 30 MG Vyvanse + 20 MG Celexa each day.

I'm currently trying to get off of Lexapro. I've been taking 10-20 mg for the past 5 yrs. I haven't experienced the noises, but certainly the sensation of swishing when turning my head side to side, as well as the vertigo/dizziness. Many other people cite the same sensations as this when withdrawing from Lexapro.
I took 10 mg a day for a year. I started tapering very very slowly. Taking about 20% increments off the pill every two weeks. I know it's REALLY slow but it has worked for me. Just the occasional headache which can be blamed on stress or just PMS. I think slow is the way to go. Good luck.
