it depends by school, but the most common scale is an A in the class is a 4.0, B is 3.0, C is 2.0, D is 1.0 and F is 0.0. Then you take all the classes you have, and if you want a cumulative number, all the classes you ever have taken since your GPA started tracking, and you convert the letter grades to numbers as shown above and add those numbers up and divide by the number of classes you added the numbers from.
