Coal is Black and shiny, and will sheer easily. It is a mixture of many different organic compounds. Found/mined in specific minefields in the UK. Flint is white/colourless and does not sheer easily(very hard). It is only one compound. sand (silicon dioxide) or possibly other crystalline solids held in the flint chemical lattice. It is found mainly in the clay vales of Southern England.
The field test for diamond is hardness. Try marking other rocks. Otherwise, carry the rock into a jeweler who can use a probe and tell you whether or not your rock is a raw diamond.

I believe that Flint and Chert are two rocks formed by stress deformation, however I apologise for the last one escapes me.
Flint is a very rigid stone which will often shatter in flakes when struck. Depending on how the flint is hit, it's possible to get the flakes to shatter with fairly sharp edges, often suitable for tools like knives or axes.
