I have come across a lighter whose owner claims it to be Cartier. #98664D. is this an accual cartier serial or model number for a Cartier gold/gold tone butane gas lighter?
Rub it, if you can smell tarnish its not solid gold because gold doesn't rust. Its probably what it's plated to!
1.gold is a solution of gold containing some copper.it is the example of solid solution.
made in Korea. 99.9% of time is goldplated, not solid gold. Only way to tell is acid test.
Measure the density. For how to do this, see this question:[http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_can_you_tell_if_gold_is_real_or_fakeHow can you tell if gold is real or fake?]
Yes there are Gold Nickels, they are solid gold not gold color. If it looks like it is faded then it is more than likely a fake. However you can take it to a coin dealer and they can tell you for definite if it is a Gold Plated Nickel or Solid Gold. Good luck, hope this helped you.
A cow will have begged for a solid gold bell around her neck and the other cows have banged-up silver bells. ;-)
How can I tell gold
I believe you can use it to tell if gold is solid, or anything you would wan't to know the density of, for that matter
We tell real gold by its weight.
Jewelers will use a couple of techniques to find if an item is real gold. The most reliable is a scratch test, they rub the item on a special block that reveals if it is genuine. The easiest way to tell is to put a strong magnet over it. Real gold is not magnetic at all. If there are fillers present it will stick to the magnet, or you will feel it pull towards the magnet.
