When male Skins become adults the black coloration on the back becomes silver, tan, or a light brown and the chin will become a dull red then during breeding season his head will become a dark red. For females the only color changes that occur are its tail as it becomes a darker blue.

You can look at the base of the tail if it is noticably large and robust it is likely a male, if it is slender it is probably female. However, to be 100% certain, you can take it to your vet and they will run x-rays on it, if it's a male the calcium build up on the hemipenes will show up, if it's female it will appear blank.
