When they get too big for their present shell they go and find a bigger one, make sure you have some of various sizes available.
Don't throw them away they may be molting mine just molted. I thought he was dead but I kept him because he didn't fall out of his shell. He had white eyes. But I put him in the iso tank and he molted the next day, he was medium and it took three days. Be careful he is pink small and soft now and don't keep him with other crabs until he changes from his present shell they may eat him and don't throw his exo skeleton away he needs calcium.
Crab molting is a normal process. Be sure not to overstress your crab during it's molting and let the hermit crab eat its exoskeleton because it provides nutrients it needs to gather its strength it lost from the molt if it doesn't eat it then you can discard it.
If your hermit crab has been digging more often, eating and drinking more often, and grows a sack like bag under it's claws.
NEVER dig a hermit crab up! it WILL kill them, to tell if a hermie has died you need to smell the tank, if it smells like dead fish, thema hermie is dead :(:(.
It's hard to tell the difference if a Hermit Crab is molting or dead. Usually if it's out of it's shell and not moving, partly out of it's shell and not moving, and occasionally inside it's shell, a hermit crab is either dead or molting. If it smells like rotting fish, the crab is dead. The only thing you can do is wait and leave it alone, isolated. It could take days or weeks to finish.
If they are on the food and their antenne are moving along with their big claw. and little chunks of food is disapearing.
They are paler in color and squishy looking.
usually 4-8 weeks.
the hermit crab ecosystem is really interesying!you see,all they do is molt! the hermit crab ecosystem is really interesying!you see,all they do is molt! the hermit crab ecosystem is really interesying!you see,all they do is molt!
A hermit crab only molts when it feels it needss to. Make sure you have plenty of soil in your hermit crab home.
Hermit crabs molt when they feel the need to. Nothing is wrong with your crab if it hasn't molted. :)
I think they have to molt first.
When it grows to big for its exoskeleton, like a hermit crab.
Typically its about to molt or in the process of shedding it's outer shell, molting.
No, they are invertebrates, meaning they need to molt their skin to grow an example is a snake, they don't grow, they molt their skin to grow, just like the hermit crab.
yes a hermit crab can tell if a person is their owner or not.
nothing. when they molt their legs grow back.
The two most common growths on a hermit crab are a molt sack, which is a dark looking spot on the side of a crab where they store nutritious goo aimed at helping them survive their molt. the other one is a gel limb. When the hermit crab loses a leg or claw, they often grow a small translucent nub called a gel limb where the repacement will be.
Yes crustaceans do molt because they have exoskeletons meaning they have and outer shell. I believe. every 2 years or months they molt out of their shells. in other words, they leave their shell
I think that the fish rock might be a little too hard for your hermit crab because he needs soft enough sand to be able to molt and when they molt their skin is sensitive so the fish rock will probably make him uncomfortable.
