How do you know if you see a ghost?

There is a trick where you have to place a penny on any type of flat surface. Once you have done that you have to draw a circle directly round the penny. Next day if the penny has moved out of the circle then there is a ghost. If you do this experiment don't tell anybody as they will move it for a joke. I have done this once before and it worked so try it out .

You will know if your house is haunted because you may hear footsteps, scratches, moaning and you may even see shadows when nobody is awake, things may go missing but if stuff (bowls move across a counter and fall) don't worry about it because if there is some one in your house hold, normally from ages 9-16, if so much rage or some other strong emotion builds up inside them, and can cause stuff to move.

You first go into your basement with all the lights off and if you hear voices then your basement is haunted!!! If you want to know if your house is haunted you simply stay up all night and make sure there are absolutely no lights on and that is when you listen for sounds. Most likely there is going to be ghosts out if your house is haunted and no lights are on so if you hear anything like banging noices unless it is someone downstairs then your house is for sure haunted!

Actually, if you have the impression that your house is haunted, you don't need to find out if it really is, just because if stay awake until late and you hear nothing you will still think your house is haunted! I tried staying up until late and I heard nothing. So I still believe my house is haunted!

I'm a Christian, so I know that my house is not haunted, because after you die your soul immediately goes to heaven or hell. There is no staying on earth to say bye or collect things to take with you. But if you make a wrong desision and start witchcraft or praying to the devil, then you will attract demons. If you think you see someone who you knew that has died, it's really just demons trying to trick you. Don't be fooled, because they can do damage to people and even kill you if they wish. If there is any major "haunting" in your house, I suggest you get out of there as soon as possible. But be careful, because although it may seem they want you out of the house, they can follow you no matter where you go. Don't ask me how, I have no clue. But here is some good news, if you're Christian or believe in God, then you know that there is not all evil in the world. Sometimes if you see something and you don't feel threatened or frightened, it could be an angel. And there is nothing scary about angels. If you do feel threatened or scared, if you have been physically touched (shoved, bitten, punched), I suggest you talk to a priest.

If you know of something that has died in a particular location, you might notice:

Cold spots, which are the absorption of heat by an earthbound spirit, can sometimes be noted at the location where something died. Many ghost hunters use infrared thermal scanners to find cold spots, which can go from 25 to 65 degrees below the surrounding temperature; this can happen with both human and animal hauntings.

Unexplained sounds such as speaking, whether human or animal, scratching, wings fluttering, a person walking, and paws or feet on the floor when nothing is there. Sounds like this can also be picked up on magnetic recording tapes. Usually, EVP (aka electronic voice phenomenon) the sound is inaudible when recording but is heard when the tape is played back. Hearing things crashing to the floor is also common in hauntings, and almost always upon investigation, nothing has changed.

Doors that open on their own can indicate a ghost, both animal and human, (it might also mean settling in the foundation) however, if you see doorknobs turning or doors closing, this almost always means a human spirit is the cause. (Unless there was an animal that had a rare, but not exactly unheard of, talent of closing doors.)

Smells, whether good or bad, can happen with hauntings, of course, different smells can mean human or animal cause.

Lights and electrical appliances are often effected by ghosts of all kinds, it is not uncommon for them to turn on and off by themselves, and in some cases, short out. Many paranormal researchers believe the reason for this is that ghosts are composed of electromagnetic and electrostatic energy.

Visible apparitions are probably one of the less common symptoms of hauntings. But when they do happen, they may appear to the witness as real and corporeal with definable form and features. Or they may take on a luminous, transparent, or wispy appearance. Apparitions have been seen moving through walls, closed doors, and other solid things. And contrary to common belief, they can cast shadows and be reflected in mirrors. It seems to be the nature of most apparitions to appear and disappear suddenly, while others just fade away as though evaporating into the ethers. Also, shadows in animal or human shapes have been reported, and are usually seen out of the corner of one's eye.

It is believed by many paranormal investigators that ghosts (being a form of energy) and paranormal activity are greatly influenced by solar storms and the earth's geomagnetic fields.

A solar storm occurs when the sun creates solar flares that send charged particles to the earth. These particles cause a magnetic shift, which increases the planet's geomagnetic fields. Researchers around the world have discovered that paranormal activity greatly increases in strength and clarity during this time and they attribute this to the excess energy in the air acting as a kind of mega power supply for spirits, which are known to feed off electrical sources such as batteries and electrical appliances.

Paranormal activity can also be very active during the times of the full moon and the new moon, as these lunar phases are known to generate peak magnetic fields. And then there are what are called "Residual Hauntings":

Ghosts that do not respond to attempts at communication and repeat their actions over and over similar to a movie clip are considered by many paranormal experts to be not earthbound spirits, but but some sort of psychic recording of a past event that has imprinted itself on the environment.

Hauntings of this nature are commonly referred to as "residual hauntings" or "recordings" and one example is a horse drawn carriage that appears at the same location and the same time every year on the anniversary of a fatal accident.

Residual hauntings can include the apparitions of animals, people, and even inanimate things such as ships and cars.

Some residual hauntings cease after a period of time, versus others that have been known to persist for centuries. Why some last longer than others is not known. And what exactly starts these hauntings is not yet completely understood.

And remember, (I don't want to scare folks here, but I must say) true ghosts (not Residual hauntings) can actually appear in one's dreams for better or worse.

For instance, if your body hair stands on end, if you feel drafts, if you hear certain sounds, if objects are not where you placed them, if time seems distorted, these could be symptoms of having a ghost in your presence. However, they can also be the symptoms of a mental illness.

Or sometimes, when you put some thing down and you know you put it there and it gone the next second some times a spirit could have moved it or for instance you feel like somethings watching you even when no one is around. But remember these things can be broke or sent back to Hell or wherever with the right help. To tell if there are spirits in your house first you must classify if it's heavenly or demonic. Usually when there are spirits in your house, it would be demonic. If it were heavenly then that's a different story. If it were demonic infestation, you would need help from a Catholic priest (an exorcist). Know that demonic infestation is when a demon possess a place. In no way will the evil spirit possess any family or people in the residence. However, strange things can occur. For example, there could be wierd smells, objects move at will, and noises. Demonic infestation will only occurs based on satanic practices, witchcraft (voodoo), and other practices. Know that a Catholic priest can't just believe this testimony quickly. He would need to speak with at least

2 witnessess. You see, in a demonic infestation, nothing will occur if the priest just prays (unlike demonic possession). Thus, everything depends on the information he is given. Afterwards, the priest would then purify your home from all spirits. Know that having spirits in your home, IS NOT NORMAL! Spirits should NOT be in your home.

You are not being haunted. If you want, you can hire a Paranormal Investigation team to come to your house, make a big deal about perfectly normal occurances, and charge you a ton of money while actually doing nothing. Or, you can just accept that ghosts don't exist, and get your Plumbing fixed.

Catholic AnswerThere are two kinds of spirits which could possibly be bothering you, other than the non-existent kind mentioned above. However, the two real kinds of spirits include those who have died and are in purgatory and are crying for help, and demons imitating them. In neither case should you pay any attention to them whatsoever. The only thing to do is to pray for the poor souls in purgatory. If it is the first case, then you have done what they were asking of you, if it is the second case, you will need to contact a Catholic priest for a house blessing, or, in very rare circumstances, an exorcism. Normally, these things are taken care of just by our beginning to offer regular prayers for the poor souls. This is assuming that you are attending the sacraments of confession and Mass regularly. As people in our society get further and further from God multiple cases of both instances are happening and all of them should do only one thing - call you back to God. If you are in a state of grace, attending the sacraments, and praying regularly, then you have nothing to fear from spirits, evil or otherwise. If you are not attending the sacraments and praying regularly, then you need to get busy, as this stuff can be very serious.
