The classical signs of an infection are: dolor, calor, rubor, tumor or in English pain, warmth, redness, and swelling. If you don't have any of those symptoms (some pain should be expected if you've just had a piercing), it's probably not infected unless there are even more obvious signs like, say, pus running out of it or bits of it turning black and falling off.
If you're not sure, you should see a physician.
