As soon as a male mouse is "adult" it will show large testicles. And if you keep male and female mice together it will mate right away. Female mice are harder to tell with, but if it is an adult male mice will mate with it as well. Female mice so intro estrus every 24 hours or so unless they are pregnant. separate them as soon as possible unless you are breeding them, I once ended up with a litter of fifteen mating and a LOT of baby mice, really quick.

if it is really young like o-6 days then it wont be able to hear or see. from about 3-4 days fur should start to grow.

if its pink, has no fur, and its eyes are sealed shut its a mouse that's less than 1 week old its eyes open on day 14. it needs to be fed kitten formula/puppy formula every 2 hours even at night. it should be kept warm under a heat lamp or on a WARM surface NOT HOT.

Do not use a heat lamp. It's too much heat and light. The best bet you have is to consult a vet, feed it diluted kitten formula every two hours or so, not any longer than two hours apart.

Baby rats are much bigger than mice. Baby rats look generally more like babies compared to an adult mouse. Rats have blunt noses, short tails, and big heads. They are a bit more "bean" shaped, while baby mice a kind of "pointy" at the nose. Baby rats are about the size of a big jelly bean at birth and without fur look like tiny pigs with big tails.
Mice are more of a pinkish color, while rats are more gray.

A zero day old mouse will be bright red.

1 day old- lighter red with a milk spot.

2 days old- pinkish with ear nubs starting to appear.

3 days old- pigment increasing, one or both ears starting to open up.

4 days old - ears may be starting to go toward the back of the head.

5 days old - both ears fully back on head.

6 days old - fuzz starts to appear on back of neck.

7 days old - fuzz starts to cover back.

8-10 days old- fuzz starts to cover more of pup and thicken.

11 days old- pups eyes start to open.

From here the pup is nearing ween age when it will be considered an adult.

New borns are tiny, about half the size of a nickel, bald and there eyes closed tightly, also there ears will be pressed (attached) backward on the there heads. At about 1 week their ears will seperate. A couple days later they will be covered in tiny tiny baby fuzz. At about 10 to 11 days the will have opened their eyes and 14 to 15 days they are nibbleing little bits of food From birth to about 1-1 1/2 weeks old they are a pinkish red color with no fur and any where from 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch long. From 2 to 3 weeks they are 3/4 to about an inch and a half long with soft peach fuzz covering their bodies. At about 3 weeks they shed the peach fuzz and start growing in there adult colored coats, though a little silkier, and really start venturing from the nest. At about 4-6 weeks they are almost 2 inches long and called "hoppers," this is because they startle so easily, and hop alot, they also start needing mommy less and less. And at about 8 weeks I would suggest, if possible, beginning to separate the males from the females and at about 12 weeks they are ready to go to their new homes. - this is personal experience, about 12 litters old. == == == == they're larger than half of a nickle, that would be around 1 cm! They're longer than a quarter! see this!: http://www.thefunmouse.com/info/daybydaybabies.cfm

If they are colored mice, their pigmentation will be evident at 3 days. They begin getting fuzz around 5 days after they're born. (Like Friday to Wednesday) Whiskers are there even before coloring. Open eyes around 14 days or so.They become fertile a little after 4 weeks, so if you wait until 8 weeks to separate them, the males will be fighting and all the females will have become pregnant by their siblings, and mom would be carrying her son's sons and daughters! The Fun Mouse is a great place to begin. they are about 2cm long and are very red when they are born they get less red as they grow. they get pigment in their skin at about 4 days, they grow hair around 1 week (mine had growen all their hair including on their tummy at about 1 week and 4 days.

A newborn baby mouse looks a bit like a pink jellybean and is very small (about the length from the last joint of your little finger to the tip). One about 3-5 days you can see dark patches on it's skin if it is going to have different coloured fur. It begins growing fur then and around 14 days opens it's eyes. At 2 -3 weeks it reaches what is known as the 'flea' stage where it can run very fast and jumps around a lot. It grows out of this stage at 3-4 weeks and at about 4 weeks of age it is weaned.

Baby mouse develop fast, so it's fairly easy to visually tell the rough age of a baby mouse.

Baby mice are born furless with their eyes closed. At this stage they are commonly called a pinkie.

At around three days, you can start to see the patterns and colors of their fur, but not any fur yet. Still they are called a pinkie.

At around five to seven days, their fur comes in and they can walk on wobbly legs. They are now called a fuzzy.

At around ten to fourteen days, their eyes will open and their legs steady. Weaning can begin soon. They are called a hopper (because they will hop around tirelessly on their new little legs).

By 21 to 28 days, the babies calm down and go into sexual maturity (yes, that soon). Males should be separated from females and from their mom. Though they are still young, they are ready to start life with a new family after just thirty days from birth.

Your mouse with start shredding paper (if you put paper in the cage) or start nesting in a separate area. She will become bigger and may bite you if she doesnt want to be picked up. Normally a couple of days before she is due to have the babies her stomache is noticably bigger and out of proportion.
