about 27 grams for a real one and about 24 grams for the fake.
Authentic Morgan dollars minted in 1893 will have the mint mark "O" (New Orleans) or "CC" (Carson City) on the reverse side. Look for these marks as well as the specific details of the design and weight of the coin to verify its authenticity. Additionally, consider consulting with a professional coin appraiser for a thorough evaluation.
If you have a 1895 Morgan with a Carson-City mintmark it's fake. 1893 was the last CC Morgan dollar.
One group is a subset of the other. "Morgan dollar" refers to the design by George T. Morgan that was issued from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. Carson City refers to one of the mints where dollars were struck. The Carson City mint operated from about 1870 to 1893, and it struck Seated Liberty design dollars, Trade dollars, and Morgan design dollars. The Morgan design was also minted at Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Denver. So ... a Morgan Carson City dollar is one that was struck between 1878 and 1893 at the Carson City Mint. But not all Morgan dollars were struck at Carson City, and not all dollars struck at Carson City are Morgans. (see Venn diagrams in high school math!)
Peace dollars were minted from late 1921 to 1935. The older series is called a Morgan dollar after its designer, George T. Morgan.
Look at the date and mintmark again, the last Carson City Morgan was struck in 1893.
There is no way to know exactly how many people have an 1893-S Morgan Dollar. 116 years ago the US Mint in San Francisco struck 100,000 of the 1893-S dollars so, we can say there are no more than 100,000 people with one of these coins.
The 1893-S Morgan dollar is considered the key-date coin of the series. If you actually have one, I strongly suggest authentication. Most known examples are in the Very Fine grade range with a minimum value of $5,000.00.
The date 1893 is one of the series of MORGAN dollars that ran from 1878-1904 & 1921 the quickest way to see one is, on your browser, type in 1893 Morgan dollars and click on images, you will find a lot of pic's of the coins.
The 1893-S Morgan is a key-date/mint coin of the series. Any example needs to be authenticated. Average retail value for a circulated coin starts at $2,000.00.
Assuming the coin is circulated and has no mint marks, retail values are $161.00-$432.00
