* Double click on the 'Resident Shield' component
* Uncheck 'Resident Shield Active'
This will now disable AVG scanning files as they are opened, copied or saved
* Remember to re-check the 'Resident Shield Active' once you have finished.

It depends on your operating system. If you go into the program and then look at options you should see the choice to temporarily disable. I don't use avg I'd suggest something different.
Open the User Interface, click on Tools, click Advanced Settings, on the left scroll down, there is "temporarily disable AVG protection" near the bottom, click on that and check the box on the right. It only lets you go up to 15 min, but it does disable each component so you can install a program. Also you can go into task manager and close the processes with AVG in the names, there'll be 2 or 3, hunt them down.
You actually can not temporarily disable an expansion pack, but you can uninstall it. I only recommend it if you have the DvD download for it.
