where the key goes or the whole starting system? if it's where the key goes .does the key go in and turn freely, or is there a hang up, if not it's not the ignition. what is it doing?
Take it to AutoZone, and they can test it

Chances are its your key that is worn vs. a bad ignition switch. Try a new key 1st.
Many autopart stores have a machine to test it. The machines use a universal adapter to hook into the ignition control module. The ignition control module is in the distributor. If you mean the part that contains the ignition coil, when mine went bad I probed it with an ohmeter and then asked the parts store if I could test the resistances in a new coil before I bought it. Since the resistances of certain terminals weren't even close, I knew I had a bad coil.
turn the a/c on should fire up
it requires a tune up
The 2005 Honda civic is fuel-efficient and has environmentally friendly engines and roomy interior. It has impressive crash test scores. The anti-lock brakes are not available on the DX or LX models.
Blown head gasket.
free, head to advance auto parts or auto zone
Sounds like the contacts are worn or burned for the ignition lock assy. Autozone has an ignition switch assy. but depending on whether you have a manual transmission model or automatic transmission there's a big difference in price.
