Blue litmus paper would turn red indicating it as an acid. Addition to silver nitrate would result in a white precipitate of silver chloride indicating the presence of chloride. These two tests would show the substance to be hydrochloric acid.

Why can't sulfuric acid be used instead of hydrochloric acid in sulphate test?

Using sulfuric acid in place of hydrochloric acid for a sulfate test can produce inaccurate results due to the formation of insoluble precipitates with some sulfates.
