He gave them to Grover, and when they went to the Underworld, the shoes nearly dragged grover into Tartarus, but Percy and Annabeth saved him. Grover confuses everything he touches, even the curse on the shoes. If Percy had been wearing the shoes, he would have went straight into Tartarus.
