How do you trade on Skullduggery Island?

At any of the 5 ports, you can sell salvage, or buy any of the 4 types of cargo (silk, medicine, grain, spice) in any quantity that you can afford, subject to the available cargo space on the ship you currently have. Larger ships can collect more salvage, and hold more cargo.

To sell or buy, select a commodity from the 4 and enter an amount that you want to trade. The prices vary from port to port, so you can profit from buying something cheaply, sailing to another port, and selling it there. Each island will be different:

Dragon Cove : always cheapest for silk, pays the most for spice

Bouffant Bay : always cheapest for medicine, pays the most for silk

Parrot Port : nothing cheap to buy, pays the most for medicine

Golden Harbor : always cheapest for grain, pays second-most for medicine

Pirate Outpost : always cheapest for spice, pays the most for grain

As you can see, if you buy the cheapest item at most places, you can sell it for a lot more at the island that is just clockwise from it. This clockwise path allows you to maximize your trading. Of course, if your cargo bay is completely full, you cannot salvage more cargo. You will, however, get any cash you salvage (doubloons) while sailing.
