Be present. Some behaviours are a result of too much solitude.
Make good things happens. Reward them. If you ground them when they have a bad behaviour you also have to cheer them when they have a good one.

Gently and gradually accustom your companion.
Cuddles are wonderful, but make time for playtime too. Your companion needs some stimulation everyday. If you go depressive after a week without sport, then so does your companion.

All dogs and cats get along with each other, they are NOT natural enemies, if a dog and cat do not like each other it is because their owners trained them to be like that, most people who have pets and own both dogs AND cats will tell you that they just love each other, there are always people who hate cats and train their dogs to chase and dislike them, much to their regret, because a cat will defend itself by scratching the dog's face.
They train dogs because so dogs dont : jump bit run (into the road ) They also train dogs so they can get along with other dogs and so when you have a puppy and a adult dog they will get along .Also in my experience with dogs you can train dogs to get along with cats .My dog Emit and cat Cico got along wonderfully . My cat Cico layed by Emit .My cat hasn't got along with an other dog .Emit died about a year ago .We got an dog named Dash .Dash loves every bode but Cico doesn't love him as much as he did to Emit.Dash jumps on Cico he also gets clawed alot . Well, if your asking what type of cat to get, the best type to get is a cat that gets along well with kids, and other pets. Plus, one that has little to no health issues and doesn't need groomed often. If your asking for what type of cat I have, it's a Calico.
Get a cat and dog trainer and train them to be well behaved
