Well my family praises them and gives them treats it helps to encourage them 1st repeat "I love you" and let it try to say it otherwise try to say it with a kind of doggish way for your dog to understand this might take some practice for some dogs

- give him lots of treats
- pet him
- play with him
- lay down and 'snuggle' with him (generally for older dogs)
- show him affection
There are also many other ways to tell you dog you love him. For puppies and adult dogs, energy consuming activities are great for them and you. For older dogs, treats, petting, and other calming activities are recommended.
