you can use windows media player for an ipod. you have to use itunes or something that supports ipods.

Ipods are designed to work with itunes and only itunes. Windows Media Player, being a Microsoft product is not an official client for synching ipods. You will need to install itunes or find some alternative program for updating your ipod. There is a WMP (windows media player) plugin for synching ipods from WMP... although its not free.
