A "spoon"? I used to work in a company that mixed chemicals for its film processor out of dry chemicals, and we used a spoon to transfer the small amounts of chemicals we used.

I worked in another place that made large quantities of product, and we transferred solid chemicals with a shovel and wheelbarrow.

Place it in a plastic, disposable weighing dish, which you have already weighed while empty. Carry it to the balance to determine its mass. The difference in mass between the empty dish and the dish containing the chemical is the mass of the chemical.

If you don't have access to a disposable weighing dish, you can use a beaker, a flask, or a petri dish, or any other inert container. Just make sure that you determine the mass of the empty container before placing the chemical in it.

What piece of equipment would you use to transfer a small amount of solid on to a balance?

Prior to weighing anything on a balance, you would want to lay a piece of weighing paper on the pan and tare the balance (zero it out). Following this, you could use a clean metal scoop to transfer solid to the weigh paper for weighing.

What is meant by quantitative transfer?

Quantitative Transfer simply means that all the material to be transfered from one place to another must make the trip. For example, every particle of solid must be transferred from the weighing paper to the (clean) beaker.http://www.dartmouth.edu/~chemlab/techniques/q_transfer.html

When is crystallization used?

crystallization is a chemical solid--liquid separation method, where mass transfer of a solute from the liquid solution to a pure solid crystalline phase occurs. Crystallization is an aspect of ppt, obtained through a variation of the solubility conditions of the solute in the solvent, as compared to precipitation due to chemical reaction.
