Give him for what he need still make him unhappy sometime, because he can be unhappy no matter what you do. It is exist in his head which make him automatically unhappy to himself and to everyone else who are connecting with him. So, just give him for what you are be able to both emotional or physical interaction. And don't care much on his complicated emotional he usually have, it is his mental problem. Just protect yourself at the same time you are connecting with him and taking care of him as possible as you can to make him feel safe and peace when he is getting support from you. He may feel some happiness for what you have given to him. Please notice, he won't be completely change as you wish but he may get some sens when you support him and when you are not. There is method to help him to reflex on himself as he will get the support from you if he has done something good and the opposite is he will be ignored if he behave impolite or other behavior you dislike.
