Take it to the doctor... it may be something serious... my dog tore his ACL and he needed surgery... it may be that your dog tore his ACL and needs surgery... Please don't let your dog be in pain any longer, take him to the doctor...

You need to take it to a vet. they will then put a splint or a cast on it to help the healing process.

use the cold compress for that day the dog has the sprain and the next day switch to hot compress or use a cast and wrap the sprain of your dog
