How do you troubleshoot code 45 on Pontiac Firebird 3.1 V6?

Assuming this is an OBD I vehicle, the code 45 says the O2 sensor shows a rich condition indicated. Look for a leaky fuel injector or any reason extra fuel is getting into the system. A faulty coolant temp sensor could also do that.
