There is a switch located on the back of the speedometer that must be turned off/pulled out before the timing belt light will shut off. This can be accomplished by removing the panel and manually flipping the switch.
probably have to have a Lexus dealer turn it off
Sometimes there is a re-set switch but the timing belt cover has to be taken off to find it, alternatively get the garage to change your timing belt and re-set the t.belt switch. Not changing your timing belt could result in a broken timing belt and serious engine damage.
I know that on an Isuzu Elf you have to take the dash cluster out and on the back swap a screw from one hole to another to turn the light off
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER IF YOU SUSPECT A BROKEN TIMING BELT !!!!!! If you have, you already have more problems than a broken timing belt. Remove the upper timing belt cover and physically look at the timing belt.
According to the repair manual: Remove the grommet from the speedometer and turn off the lamp by pushing the warning light reset switch, then replace the grommet.
A timing belt is driven by the crank shaft and allows the camshaft to turn, which opens and closes intake and exhaust valves in their proper timing sequence.
A car's timing belt can start to melt and snap if it is fitted too tight. Most timing belts should have a half turn of play on them.
Timing chains and timing belts are used to turn the cam shaft. The term timing chain or belt is a misnomer. They are really just a cam chain or cam belt.
if the timing is off by 9 degrees at the timing belt, your in trouble... you would have bent all your valves..... if its off on the timing tabs then you need a timing light and turn the distributer until you get the desired timing..
there is no timing belt, or a belt to turn your camshaft if that is what you are wondering, it is all done by a timing chain and there is no service that they need.
The engine will turn on the starter, or with a wrench on the end of the crankshaft. However it will not run. If the Timing belt breaks, when the engine is running, this can cause extensive damage to the engine.
broken timing belt or chain....
