The 4wd is automatic in the 1992 Subaru Legacy Wagons. There is an empty fuse under the hood that has a cover that says FWD that can be used to disable the 4wd and force it to be in front wheel drive, but by default, there should not be a fuse in it. When there is a fuse in the FWD connector, the dashboard will have a warning light that says FWD, indicating that you do not have 4wd enguaged. If the light is not lit and you do not have 4wd then you have a transmission issue that will likey need the expertise of a transmission specialist. Check the transmission error codes (as opposed the the standard engine error codes.) They will likely help you pinpoint the problem.
Put a fuse in the circuit labeled "FWD" under the hood on the passenger side.

To reset the alarm system in a 2001 Subaru Legacy GT wagon after changing the battery, first ensure that the new battery is properly installed. Then, unlock the driver's door using the key or the remote, which should deactivate the alarm. If the alarm remains active, insert the key into the ignition, turn it to the "On" position without starting the engine, and then turn it back to "Off" to reset the system. Finally, check the owner's manual for any specific instructions related to your alarm system model.
