There isn't a such thing as unlocking the Pokemon on the game, what you do to receive new Pokemon is simply in the key of exploring. New cities, islands, waters, offer new species to fill up your pokedex in your travels and the specialties like rare Pokemon, Suicune/Entei/Raikou depending on your starter and the three birds Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres and my personal favorite, Mewtwo. Bring many pokeballs of different kinds, pokeballs for really weak creatures{lv. 20 and under} and great balls for {20 and over}, and for legendaries of high levels use ultra balls{lv. 55 ++}. OH and save your master ball for the Suicune/Entei/Raikou encounterbecause they have the tendency to flee.
