∙ 15y agoIt is a satellite navigation system so you shouldn't need to worry about updating it. The short answer appears to be: you don't. Nextar is getting a lot of flack for not making the latest maps available but they don't really seem to care. My wife gave me a Nextar M3-03 GPS for Christmas. It comes with the Navteq 2007 maps but I would like to get the 2009 updates. I have seen a torrent that claims to have updated maps for it but I have a 2 year warranty and am not willing to risk that. If anyone knows how to get maps from Nextar I'd like to hear it. For the benefit of the original answerer to this question: GPS units only know where they are as latitude and longitude. Without the mapping database installed they have no way to relate latitude and longitude to a street location. Streets change as new ones are built and old ones are abandoned or shut off. A couple of years might not make much difference but some Nextar units are running 5 or 6 year old maps. Garmin and TomTom both guarantee the latest maps when you buy one of their units.
