You can upgrade tom nooks shop buy buying lots of stuff if you go to the machine thing in the corner it tells you how many points you need to upgrade the shops and for the last upgrade you also need to have a friend from another town come and buy something there it usually take a day or two for the construction to Finnish so you won't be able to buy or sell anything for a whole day!! But it's worth it in the end :33
