Keyboard shortcuts are controlled in System Preferences/Keyboard.
Apple has preselcted some keys such as F10, F11, and F12 to control volume.
These keys can be set to other functions in the System Preferences/Keyboard pref pane. There are many function available. Take care in setting them so that you don't have two keys doing the same function.
To use the F keys as function keys and not as the preset keys, press the fn key on the keyboard first, and then press the F# key you need.
You can either: A. Go to "System Preferences" then to "Sound", where you can adjust the volume, or B. Use headphones with volume buttons (that support MacBooks).
F1-F12 are often used to quickly access a part of a program, such as F12 opening developer tools in Internet Explorer.
On a Windows computer, F12 does not take screenshots. You must use the PrntScr (Print Screen) button to do this, which is usually located near the F12 button.
There is an audio-out plug next to the USB plugs. Headphones and in-ear headphones can be plugged in there. Volume can be controlled by the Mac volume control, or if present, volume control on the headphone wire. Be sure volume is not too loud when headphones or in-ear headphones are used. Excessive volume can damage hearing ability.
On a MacBook, use iChat.
you probably should get the MacBook. they are cheaper than the MacBook Pro. now, if you want a bigger screen, then get a MacBook Pro.
The Intel Core i5 offered in a new MacBook Air is more than sufficient for daily use. A MacBook Pro is better suited for heavy design or developing use.
Yes
F12 will do a Save As in Microsoft Word. In combination with other keys, it can do other things: Shift-F12 will do a Save. Ctrl-Shift-F12 will print the document.
