How do you use a potato to regrow a rose plant?

Cut an 8-inch long stem from a rose bush, cutting at a slant on the stem. Cut off any flower heads and hips down to the first set of healthy leaves on the stem. Have a medium size flower pot ready, filled with good potting soil. Slightly moisten the soil. Cut any eyes from the potato, and poke a 3-inch deep hole in the potato with a screwdriver or something just a little larger round than the rose stem. Brush rooting compound on the cut part of the stem, and shake off the excess compound. Push the stem gently into the hold in the potato. With a spoon, make a hole in the potting soil large enough for the potato to be completely buried, with only the cutting showing above the dirt. Cover the potato well with potting soil. Using a clean soda bottle, put the bottle down over your stem cutting. This will create a mini-greenhouse for your rose to grow in. Twist the bottle a little to seat it solidly in the potting soil. You should place your pot in warm location, away from direct sunlight, but still getting lots of light. Take the bottle off the cutting for a while every day so it can breathe a while, then replace the bottle. Keep the soil moist and don't disturb the cutting until you can tell it is growing. You can tell if roots have developed by pulling gently on the cutting and feeling resistance. Once it starts to grow, remove the bottle permanently and set the pot in a sunny location with direct light. ONce you know your cutting has grown roots and is thoroughly established, move it outside a few hours a day to gradually get it used to the outdoors.
