I have no idea how to use the "base" chip. To use Bass, you need to summon a hole. Darkman's chip leaves one behind, and there is a Hole chip behind one of the security programs in Secret 3. When it appears, wait for it to open up. It should be about the same size as a panel. Then you can use it. I'd recommend using a couple Attack +10s on it, and arealocking the opponent. It can be pretty killer.
