In versions up to Word 2003, there is a menu system. The Alt key is usually used to activate the menus, though you can also use the F10 key. Each menu and menu item has a letter associated with it if using the keyboard to navigate the menus, or you can click on the items with the mouse. F is for the File menu and X is for Exit, so to quickly exit Word, you can press the Alt-F-X key combination. Alt activates the menus, F picks to File menu and X picks the Exit option. Once you get used to using the menus and the keyboard shortcuts for them, you can operate them very quickly. In the newer versions of Word, although the menus have been replaced by ribbons, you can still use the old key combinations for some activities, so Alt-F-X will still exit you from Word.
The Home Ribbon since Word 2007 or the Format menu in older versions of Word.
It is not normally used for doing them, but you can actually do calculations in Microsoft Word. In the Table menu there is an option called Formula which allows you to do some. If you want to do a lot of calculations you are better off to use Microsoft Excel.

There is only one word processing software called Word - that is by Microsoft that I am aware of. If you need to know go to your start menu and look under "Programs". If you don't see it on that menu it may be in that menu in a "Microsoft Office". Then again you could always ask your employer for clarification.
